About Left

Left is a five track studio EP that utilizes diverse genres and songwriting styles to explore heartbreak and longing. The story-driven songwriting of Shaudi Bianca Vahdat's 2012 debut EP album, Some Songs, is built upon here with fuller arrangements that borrow elements from folk, jazz, and American and Iranian 1970's pop. The album features musicians David Ansari, Ellen Zahniser, Joey Shaw, and the songwriter's father, Manooch Vahdat. Shaudi Bianca Vahdat's composition and arrangement work for theatre has been called "crackling with humor and warmth" (City Arts) and "fun (and) foot-stomping" (BlogCritics), and her storytelling skills are on display in her work on Left. From the quiet, intimate interpretation of the "morning after" scene in Romeo and Juliet in Act V, to a driving contemporary cover of Iranian pop-rock icon Kourosh Yaghmaei's 1974 hit Gole YakhLeft is a dreamy, ethereal, stylistically mixed piece of work. The EP has been released widely on multiple music download and streaming services, including iTunes and Spotify.

"Left is a tastefully delivered album of heartbreak and love; moving and tender songs touch on this inner struggle, embracing the listener and offering strength and solidarity." (The Permanent Rain Press)
